Importing framework_is31fl3743 causes CircuitPython core crash

I tried setting up my macropad to run macropad_backlight.py, but the line from framework_is31fl3743 import IS31FL3743 appears to cause the CircuitPython core to crash. This is the full error message:

CircuitPython core code crashed hard. Whoops!

After some digging around, I've found that triggering any exception by any means nets this result... which isn't typical for CircuitPython. Is there something preventing the exception handler from running, perhaps?

Running help("modules") reveals that framework_is31fl3743 is not a module that exists. Does it need to be manually installed somehow?

I found framework_is31fl3743 here but the core still crashes when i try to import it :(

Using the firmware.uf2 from that repo works! This likely indicates a failure in the build system.
