@rouson I'd like to merge this PR now, in order to get the preprocessor-related documentation changes into main before the J3 slated to discuss preprocessor standardization. We can always update later if you disagree with any of these changes. |

Repair some of the problems currently preventing use of this library with CCE 17.0.0.
These changes are necessary, but not sufficient to pass
fpm test.Specifically, test/test-intrinsic_array remains broken due to NERSC INC0216109 aka HPE Case # 5374395266
