I develop open-source tools for bioinformatics, mostly in R and C++ but sometimes dabbling in Python, Go and Javascript. My interests lie in data analysis, statistical methods and data representations. I did my PhD at the University of Melbourne, after which I traveled the world as a scientist of fortune.

I maintain several packages in the R/Bioconductor project such as beachmat, BiocNeighbors, basilisk and SingleR. (See my profile page for a full list.) I manage the public data repositories for the scRNAseq and celldex packages. I also contributed to popular packages like edgeR and SingleCellExperiment.

These days, I write more C++ code to enable greater re-use across R, Python and Javascript (via WebAssembly). I am the creator of the tatami library, for diverse matrix representations in C++; knncolle, for interchangeable neighbor detection; and libscran, for single-cell analyses.

I occasionally contribute to other interesting projects such as the BiocPy and crisprVerse projects. I'm also moderately fluent in Go for creating REST APIs and other services.
